Myth #1: Old dogs are not suitable for residential training programmes<\/h3>\n

We\u2019ve all heard the saying \u201cyou can\u2019t teach an old dog new tricks,\u201d but it simply isn\u2019t true. Older dogs still have elastic brains that can be taught new skills. It is worth noting, however, that training them may require a little more time and patience than training a sprightly puppy.<\/p>\n

Myth #2: You need to use force to train a dog<\/h3>\n

Many owners roughly push the rump of their dog to the floor when trying to teach the \u2018sit\u2019 command. Like humans, however, dogs tend not to learn when forced to carry out certain actions. Instead, training sessions should involve conditioning and luring to ensure they make great companions.<\/p>\n

Myth #3: Training can be completed quickly<\/h3>\n

While it is true that some dogs learn faster than others, rushing to the finish line is only likely to end in disaster. Signing up for four or five lessons will not turn your dog into a genius, as effective training requires plenty of time, patience, and persistence. Generally speaking, basic obedience training could take up to a year, although your dog will continue to pick up new skills and tricks throughout their entire life. Myth #4: Some dogs simply cannot be trained<\/h3>\n

Some people believe certain dogs or, indeed, entire breeds, are simply untrainable. While this may be the case in very extreme cases, even very boisterous and hyperactive dogs should respond to professional trainers.<\/p>\n
